# 23 Is this really the End? Or just the beginning?

Wow.

Can't believe I have made it to the end. This program has been a huge learning curve for me. I have never liked computers but have been forced to use them for study and work. Although challenging at times, I have found I have really enjoyed completing this course.

My favourite activities would have to be Wiki, Youtube, Rollyo and Flickr. I became more confident as I went along and spent more time exploring each site as my confidence increased. I know I will make more use of web2.0 tools in the future now I know how to use them.

I know this program began in America but I was annoyed about all the American content in the activities. We have good Australian sites for RSS feeds and podcasts etc and maybe some of these could have been included in the sites suggested throughout the program.

Congratulations though, to the creators of this program. I thought it was well designed and put together and easy to use and I feel I have learned a lot through completing this program.

Bye

Week 9. Podcasts, Video & Downloads

#20 You too can YouTube

YouTube is lots of fun. This is the first time I have looked at Youtube and I had lots of fun searching for videos of my beloved Geelong Cats and library related stuff. You can see the results below in my blog. The site is very easy to use. It is amazing what you can find on this site and if you sort through the junk you can find a few gems.

#21 Podcasts.
Looked at all the podcast directories and found an amazing variety of podcast subjects that would suit the interests of a variety of people. Had trouble actually getting to hear some of the podcast chosen to look at - maybe I don't have the correct soft wear to deal with them.
Found some good Australian podcast directories. Try
http://www.podcastdirectory.com.au
http://www.thepodlounge.com.au
http://australianpodcasts.com.au
for podcasts with an Australian content. Radio National http://www.abc.net.au/rn/also has some great podcasts and is where I found the "Book Show"podcast I have placed in my web.

#22 Audio books
Had a good look around World EBookfair- http://worldebookfair.com/Mp3eBooks.htm Was amazed that so many books are available online for free. Found books available in print format, and in audio format. Some audio books are human read and others are read by computer with a computer generated voice - not nice to listen to.

Week 8 Online Applications & Tools

Hi there

This is my third attempt at using Zoho Writer.

My favourite football team is the Geelong Cats.

You can find out more about them at the Geeelong Football Club Official Website

#18 Web based Apps.

Had some fun playing with Zoho. It is amazing that you can make documents and publish them or email them without having to have any programs installed on your computer. How amazing is modern technology!!!!!

#19 Discovering Web 2.0 Tools

I looked at Lulu. http://www.lulu.com/ It is an online publishing site. Lulu offers a free book publishing service. It can publish and market your book for you keeping only a small % of the sale price. You can create all sort of publications from books and brochures to calenders and posters. A very interesting site for all budding authors.

Week 7 So what's a wiki?

# 16 Wikis
Wikis are wonderful. Fantastic for group discussions via the net, colabaritive editing, planning meeting agendas and as a presentation medium.

Loved BookLoversWiki http://booklovers.pbwiki.com/Princeton%20Public%20Library

It could be a good resource for suggesting books for readers. How wonderful it would be if we had a site like this in our library.

#17 Played with http://plcmclearning.pbwiki.com/ Tried to add my blog to favourite blogs page but it kept coming up with an error page. My blog address is on the page but is not a hyperlink to my blog. Not sure what I did wrong

Week 6 Tagging/folksomonies and Social bookmarking

#13 The youtube site on 'Socialbookmarking in Plain English'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x66lV7GOcNU

was an excellent tool to learn how to use Del.icio.us.
Del.icio.us looks interesting and useful. When have time will install buttons on my home computer for tagging sites.

#14 Technorati. A site that needs to explored in greater detail. A good way to find posts, blogs, videos and posts of any topic you choose.

#15 Do changing technologies mean changing libraries?
Can libraries move from a static location to being “everywhere” via the web.?
Can libraries educate users to use online services with limited resources and personal?
Can libraries change to provide simple “one mouse click” access to online services?
Will future Web 2.0 Libraries still cater for users’ needs for a place of community and socialisation?
What changes are further ahead for libraries? Librarian and book avatars?

Answering these questions could be exciting. Web 2.0 technologies offer a lot of opportunity for libraries and library users. A wonderful, new web world waits for us at our fingertips.

Week 4 RSS & Newsreaders

Found this weeks training very interesting but need lots more time to play with this.
Have set up a bloglines account and put in a few rss feeds.

Think I will probably do this with my own personal web page so can access info from my most used web pages.

Think it could be useful in the library setting by adding RSS feeds to web page for easy access to useful sites.

With the Newsreaders mentioned in this lesson was disappointed to find that they were of mostly American content. Found topix.net had more Australian content and much more relevant to me. Technorati was difficult to access (from home) as my internet connection is too slow. "The joys of living in a smallish town."

Need much more time to explore this fully but intend to do that soon.

Week 3 Photos& Images

Have finally had a chance to look at all Week 3 work. Am amazed with Flicker. Was surprised about the number of people who are willing to put theire photos on line for all to see.
Technology has let me down in the last few weeks with internet problems at work and my home computer crashing. Hope I keep up to datewith the rest of this course.

Week 2Creating a blog

Wow! I think I have made a blog.
It has been an effort. When ever I tried to use the internet this week it was down so am glad I have finally got this done before week 3.
